Cedar Deck

Before...the deck was rotted pressure treated wood (yes even PT will rot eventually).

Tearing down the old deck. Chain saw makes the job a lot easier.

Thanks to my Dad and company, they had the old deck torn down, new sill attached and the new deck framed and attached to the house in just 1 day! A local carpenter built us the wide steps, rails and privacy walls. We did splurge on the cedar but it is a healthier alternative for us and our "pachamama" ...has been well worth the cost!

Fireplace Addition

During the install...

Voila! A gas fireplace and it even has a programmable thermostat!  We've saved oodles by using gas over electricity and reduced our enviro footprint. This fireplace can heat the main level alone (My house is fairly small). The stone mantel was purchased from home depot online and a false wall was built around the unit up to the ceiling.  Next on the list...paint.

Bedroom Brighten Up

Before...dark army green on the walls....

I wanted an over-sized headboard but being budget restricted I decided to create my own. First I outlined the headboard with chair rail. Next I wall papered inside the trim using textured paintable wall paper (left over from the stair risers purchased at Benjamin Moore Paints).

I made the white cotton curtains with blackout liner so this room can go from light to dark in daylight.
